Fire starter? Chicago want to take Rio Ferdinand to the MLS

The franchise have identified Ferdinand as their number one transfer target, according to reports.

WATCH OUT, ROBBIE. Rio Ferdinand could be the next big Premier League star to conquer America.

Either that, or he’s just been merked in a major way.

The Daily Mail reports that MLS side Chicago Fire are preparing an audacious swoop for the Manchester United centre-half as they look to land their next foreign marquee star.

Hristo Stoichkov, Freddy Ljungberg, Jorge Campos and “Pride of Pride Park” Paulo Wanchope have all previously lined out in the Fire’s famous red strip.

But, at the moment, there is no superstar on the roster to rival the likes of Beckham and Keane at the LA Galaxy, or Henry and Marquez at the New York Red Bulls.

Ferdinand, 32, has struggled to hold down his place in the United defence due to recent injuries and is out of contract at Old Trafford at the end of next season.

According to the Mail, he “is understood to be aware of interest from America and has not ruled out a move at some stage.”

If Ferdinand does make the move stateside, prepare for Brand Ferdinand — which already includes a magazine, a clothing line, and a record label — to go global.
