Former Dubs star Paddy Andrews to play soccer for Monaghan United

GAA star Paddy Andrews has been signed by Monaghan United manager Roddy Collins, with a Dublin representative telling The Score he moves with their blessing.

MONAGHAN UNITED HAVE announced the signing of Paddy Andrews for the remainder of the season.

Roddy Collins swooped to sign up the former Dublin GAA star after he fell out of favour with Pat Gilroy.

Dublin PRO Paudie Kelly told TheScore.ie that Andrews switches codes with the blessing of the Dublin management team.

“Paddy maybe hasn’t featured as much as he would have liked, except for a few cameo appearances in the league this year, and we wish him the very best of luck,” he said.

Andrews carved out a fine reputation in Gaelic Football, excelling for St. Brigid’s and DCU, before going on to win a Leinster Championship with the Dubs in 2009.

The younger brother of former Dublin star Peadar Andrews dropped out of Pat Gilroy’s panel in 2010 and has only played a bit part this year, though he was – somewhat ironically – on target against Monaghan in the National Football League earlier this year.

The Monaghan United website reports that Collins hopes to unveil a number of other signings in the coming days, with the club just a single point off second placed Cork City in the Airtricity League First Division.
