Free man: CHC confirm no further action to be taken against McKeever

The Armagh captain is free to lead the Orchard out in Sunday’s relegation battle against Donegal.

ARMAGH CAPTAIN CIARAN MCKEEVER will not face any further punishment as a result of his controversial sending-off against Laois last month.

The Central Hearings Committee (CHC) confirmed that they are not proceeding with disciplinary action, freeing McKeever to line out in Sunday’s Division 1 relegation battle against Donegal.

McKeever was shown a straight red card by referee Michael Duffy in the tunnel at half-time following a clash with a Laois player. The Armagh County Board initially alleged that he had been the target of “racial and personal abuse”, though they later conceded that this statement was inaccurate.

Last week, the CHC rescinded the red card but sent the case back to the Central Competitions Control Committee for further investigation.

Armagh are currently third from bottom in Division 1 of the National Football League, and need a win in Ballybofey this weekend to guarantee another season of football in the top tier.

Prejudice still exists in GAA, claims Brolly

Opinion: Abuse should go in one ear and out the other for Armagh
