Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the first of the weekend’s URC quarter-finals, with Stuart Lancaster’s in-form Connacht away to Glasgow Warriors.

Sean Jansen is the big loss for Connacht tonight, while Jack Carty is unavailable due to personal reasons.

Glasgow have lost only twice in the URC at Scotstoun since the start of the 2023/24 season, to Ospreys in March 2025 and to the Bulls in April 2025.

Connacht have never won at the stadium, with their last win in Glasgow coming back in 2010.

Early chance for Connacht with a 5m lineout, the ball is worked centrally and they go close under the posts, but Glasgow survive after some brilliant defensive work, with Dylan Tierney-Martin adjudged to have been held up. Josh Ioane looking bright in the opening minutes.

Ioane playing off quick ball as Connacht work their way back up the pitch from a goal-line drop out, and then Cian Prendergast gets over from close range.

Sam Gilbert converts to cap a brilliant start for Connacht.

TRY – GLASGOW (Schickerling)

10mins: Glasgow 7 Connacht 7

Glasgow hit back through Patrick Schickerling, who gets over after a series of close carries. George Horne adds the extras from a tight angle and we’re level at 7-7.

Yellow card: Illo

Sione Tuipulotu makes a break, Glasgow move the ball wide but the final pass flies out of touch.

Play is called back as the home side had penalty advantage, and Sam Illo is sent to the bin for offside.

TRY – Glasgow (Matthews)

Johnny Matthews thinks he has Glasgow’s second try, coming through from a maul, but we go for a TMO check and the score is crossed off.

Matt Fagerson had broken away from the maul early and then obstructed Bundee Aki from making a tackle.

Ioane executes a lovely 50/22!

Prendergast wins the lineout and Aki makes a hard carry and Connacht move the ball wide, but it’s knocked-on.

Illo is back on for Connacht.

Wow!

Ioane pinches a loose pass and it looks as though he’ll go the length of the pitch, but with the tryline in sight he’s caught by Kyle Steyn.

That’s a brilliant bit of defence, think Stuart McCloskey chasing down Marcus Smith in Twickenham. 

Connacht initially keep possession, with Ben Murphy shipping a massive hit, before Glasgow turn the ball over. That’s a huge moment.

Oh no. Another error for Connacht as Shamus Hurley-Langton knocks-on from an Ioane pass.

Ben Murphy takes a bang but he’s ok to continue. Connacht launch a promising strike play but Glasgow turn the ball over again.

Half time: Glasgow 7 Connacht 7

The second half has just kicked off, no changes for either side at the break.

A Dan Lancaster kick gives Gilbert a bit of trouble. He manages to gather the ball but then slices his kick out of touch. Glasgow have the lineout on the edge of the Connacht 22.

That last Glasgow attack came to nothing, but Gilbert adds another poor kick to invite a Warriors counter, and Steyn replies with a massive 50/22.

TRY – Glasgow (Steyn)

Steyn started that move with his 50/22 and he finishes it with Glasgow’s second try.

From his kick, Glasgow win the lineout, the maul is good, and then it’s sharp passing to move the ball across and Steyn punches through a gap to score. The conversion pushes Glasgow seven clear.

A forward pass from Jack Dempsey lets Connacht off the hook.

A brilliant move from Glasgow, with Josh McKay going over and there’s no question about that one.

Tuipulotu makes the carry off a Glasgow scrum and throws a sharp pass out the back, before Lancaster fires a pass to McKay. Big ask for Connacht to turn this around now.

58mins: Glasgow 21 Connacht 7

Connacht get back into the Glasgow 22, but Glasgow win a penalty, Connacht pinged for holding on. There was an earlier penalty for a high shot on Ioane but the advantage was over.

Ioane is now off for a HIA assesement after that high tackle. So Hugh Gavin is on, and Sean Naughton will shift to out-half as we enter the final quarter.

Connacht are right back in this!

Glasgow’s discipline has slipped in the last few minutes, giving away three penalties in quick succession.

From a lineout in the Glasgow 22 Connacht work hard, but the Warriors’ defence is excellent again. With penalty advantage, Connacht are camped on the line. Bealham is stopped just short, Connacht go again and are held up.

But on TMO review, the try is good! Dave Heffernan just about getting the ball down. Gilbert adds the conversion.

Alex Samuel is sent to the bin for Glasgow after repeated infringements.

However Hugh Gavin has suffered an injury in the process, and leaves on a stretcher. Connacht have already used all their replacements so will continue with 14 players.

Ben Murphy has been able to come back on as a permanent replacement for Josh Ioane, so Connacht are back to 15.

Well that might be the game. 

Oguntibeju picks from a ruck and just steps through the Connacht defence to score.

Well Connacht aren’t going down without a fight.

Devine makes a great run, before Connacht turn to their power game, with Prendergast central again, before Bealham barges over through a cluster of Glasgow bodies. Gilbert converts and it’s a seven point game again.

Connacht spill the restart, Sean O’Brien just totally misjudges the flight of the ball, and now Glasgow have a 5m lineout.

TRY – Glasgow (Steyn)

75mins: Glasgow 33 Connacht 21

That’s a killer for Connacht after pulling a try back. 

It’s another well-worked try after Glasgow win the lineout, moving the play inside before coming back down the right wing, where Steyn has space to get in for their fourth try. Lancaster pulls the conversion effort wide.

Bealham is injured, but Connacht have used all their replacements, so for Illo to come back on Connacht take off Hurley-Langton.

They’ll play at home in next weekend’s semi-finals, but Connacht’s season is over. Stuart Lancaster’s side went down fighting after a really encouraging season.
