CHARLES GREEN IS confident Scottish Premier League chairmen will take note of his pleas before making their vote tomorrow.
It is expected that Motherwell will become the eighth SPL club to vote against the newco joining the top flight.
Rangers newco need a majority of 8-4 to be successful, something that seems unlikely, and it is highly probable that their future will lie in the Scottish Football League.
However, the 30 SFL clubs will also meet on Tuesday to discuss the proposals put forward by the Scottish FA that would see Rangers play their football in the First Division for the next season. But new hope has emerged for the club after it was revealed frantic talks had taken place between Rangers and a group of SPL clubs looking to breakaway — a deal that would secure the Ibrox club’s place in the top tier.
Green told the club’s website: “I know the chairmen will listen. The problem some of them have to a lesser degree than I have here is fan pressure.
“I said to a number of them over the weekend that if they’re concerned about their fans, they should come to Ibrox for a week and sit in my chair. Fans are the lifeblood of all clubs and without them we have no product so we have to engage with them.”
Green’s consortium, Sevco, are also awaiting news over their application put forward to join the SFA. This applies to the plans for an appeal looking into the oldco Rangers and their failure to pay tax last season.
“We think the important thing is Scottish football and we need to draw a line and move forward,” Green said. ”There is now a clearer understanding of the implications of football without Rangers because, remember, this is not just about Rangers not being in the SPL.
“Lord Carloway may even just withdraw the licence to play at all if we go back to the tribunal. There are some big decisions and none are more material than Rangers being excluded from the league and the financial incomes this club drives for the benefit of all Scottish clubs.”
