Steven Gerrard watches on as Irish youngster impresses in Uefa Youth League

Dublin-born defender Conor Masterson was on target in the Reds’ victory over Sevilla.

IRELAND UNDERAGE INTERNATIONAL Conor Masterson was on target, as Liverpool beat Sevilla 4-0 in the Uefa Youth League at Prenton Park this evening.

The Dublin-born defender scored his side’s fourth goal, showing good composure to take the ball on his chest before sidefooting it into the net, with promising Welsh youngster Ben Woodburn providing an assist with a well-delivered free kick.

It represents an excellent result for Liverpool, as Steven Gerrard’s side got their Uefa Youth League (essentially, the underage equivalent of the Champions League) campaign off to a winning start.

It also caps an excellent couple of days for 19-year-old Masterson, after it was confirmed last week that he had been included in the Liverpool senior team’s Champions League squad for the group stages — an indicator of the progress he has made at underage level of late.
