ROBBIE KEANE HAS officially signed for LA Galaxy according to Sky Sports News.
Earlier in the day, it had been announced that Keane was rushing to sign on the dotted line before the US transfer window was due to close at 5am this morning.
Keane, who has been linked with several clubs of late following his predominantly unhappy second spell at Tottenham, released a statement via LA Galaxy’s official website:
“I have always wanted to come and play in MLS so it’s the perfect combination for me and a dream come true.”
Keane added that the move was “a massive opportunity” for him and indicated that David Beckham’s praise for the club when training with Tottenham was an integral factor in his decision to move there.
Ex-USA manager and current LA Galaxy Head Coach Bruce Arena expressed his delight amid news that the club had captured Keane, saying:
“Robbie Keane will be a great addition to our club. I have followed his career and have always respected his ability as a competitor and a goalscorer.”
The impact that the move will have on his international career is currently unclear, as playing for Galaxy will mean Keane will be forced to endure 11-hour flights from LA to Ireland and back again.
He is currently Ireland’s all-time top goalscorer with 51 goals in 109 appearances.
