James McGee is just two wins away from a place at the Australian Open

Straight sets win for Dubliner in the Melbourne sun.

JAMES MCGEE SIZZLED in the sun as he progressed to the second round of the Australian Open qualifiers.

Ireland’s top tennis player comfortably dispatched his French opponent Calvin Hemery in straight sets, 6-3 6-4.

In temperatures which topped 40°C, McGee never faced a break point and wrapped up the win within 75 minutes.

The world number 199 will now face the seeded Radu Albot of Moldova in the next round. Albot is currently ranked 120th.
