CONOR MCMANUS HAS been named the GAA-GPA Opel player of the month for July as a reward for his match-winning 0-6 in the final which helped Monaghan to a second Ulster crown in three years.

The award will be scant consolation for the Clontibret man who couldn’t guide his side to an All-Ireland semi-final meeting with Kerry despite scoring 0-7 in the loss to Tyrone at the weekend.

McManus beat out competition from Mayo star Aidan O’Shea and Paul Cribbin of Kildare.

Galway’s Jonathan Glynn picked up the hurling award for his key role in helping the Tribesmen overcome Cork in the All-Ireland quarter-finals.

The Ardrahan forward scored 1-2 against the Rebels which he followed up with the best interview of this year’s championship.
