Deal or no deal?

Kearney finding contract negotiations "really frustrating"

Ireland star anxious to do deal with Leinster and get back to playing rugby.

LEINSTER AND IRELAND full-back Rob Kearney has publicly spoken of his frustration at the pace with which his current contract negotiations are progressing.

The 24-year-old’s current contract with the IRFU is set to expire in June and negotiations on a new deal have been ongoing since October.

Speaking to Newstalk over the weekend, Kearney revealed that negotiations were “moving really slowly and we’re quite far off reaching an agreement.”

There’s no doubt in my mind where I want to play my rugby, it’s always been here.

Leinster are really moving up the ranks at the moment, it’s a brilliant place to play. It’s a no-brainer for me and hopefully we can reach an agreement.

Kearney’s contract saga is merely the latest in line of negotiations which Leinster and the IRFU have had to conduct over the past months.

Most recently, Jamie Heaslip, Jonny Sexton and Brian O’Driscoll ended months of speculation, committing their futures to the province by signing new deals.

Following the conclusion of those deals at the beginning of the month, Leinster chief executive Mick Dawson stated that they were “pushing hard to get something agreed ” with Kearney.

Kearney has not been in action since picking up a serious knee injury during Ireland’s 38-18 defeat to New Zealand in November’s Autumn Series.
