Eddie Brennan in charge as Kilkenny get 2017 off to a winning start

The Cats’ U21 team ran out nine-point winners over DCU in the Walsh Cup opener.

Kilkenny 0-21

DCU 0-12

A KILKENNY TEAM consisting solely of U21 players were comfortable 0-21 to 0-12 winners over DCU in the Walsh Cup tonight.

Kevin Farrell posted five frees for the Cats, while James Bergin impressed off the bench in the second-half, scoring 0-4 (including two frees).

A DCU side featuring Waterford star Patrick Curran trailed by 0-11 to 0-5 at the interval but failed to close the gap in the second period. Peter Hogan top-scored for the college outfit with seven points, but they relied heavily on his placed balls (0-5) throughout.

Eight-time All-Ireland winner Eddie Brennan oversaw his U21 charges in Dunmore tonight.

Brian Cody and his Kilkenny seniors are expected to return to action for the next round, where they’ll face Antrim. Meanwhile, DCU will take on Westmeath on Sunday week.
