LA Kings made to wait for Stanley Cup coronation

New Jersey Devils hand the Kings their first away defeat of the playoffs.

THE NEW JERSEY Devils have defeated the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 in a tight game five to stay alive in the NHL Stanley Cup Finals.

The Devils handed the Kings their first defeat on the road in this season’s NHL playoffs thanks to goals from Zach Parise and Bryce Salvador.

Saturday was the first time Los Angeles had lost two games in a row in the playoffs and means they now lead New Jersey 3-2 heading into game six on Monday.

The Devils took the lead at home when Parise scored a power-play goal in the 13th minute of the first period.

The Kings hit back early in the second when Matt Greene set up Justin Williams but, five and a half minutes later, the Devils were back in front when Salvador finished off Alexei Ponikarovsky and Travis Zajac’s lead-up work.

The third period was tight with Los Angeles having the better chances, taking nine shots to the home side’s three, but New Jersey held on for the win.
