Longford denied invaluable win as Galway come away with a point

Paul Sinnott’s equaliser meant the shares were spoiled at the City Calling Stadium.

LONGFORD MISSED THE chance to pick up three priceless points tonight as they were unable to hold onto their lead and then spurned a late opportunity to beat Galway United.

The League of Ireland’s bottom club took a deserved lead just after half-time through Kaleem Simon but were ultimately forced to settle for a point as they fight for their Premier Division lives.

Galway, who are enjoying a fine season, leveled proceedings with a little over 20 minutes remaining at the City Calling Stadium as Paul Sinnott fired home from the edge of the box.

But the hosts could have snatched just their second win of the campaign in the dying embers but substitute Lee Duffy saw his 93rd minute effort parried by Conor Winn in the Galway goal.

Longford remain rooted to the foot of the standings, six points adrift of Wexford Youths.

Longford Town: Ryan Coulter, Yann M’Vita, Noel Haverty, Rhys Gorman, Conor Powell, Mark Hughes, Kealan Dillon, Peter McGlynn, Kaleem Simon, Eddie Dsane, Don Cowan.

Galway United: Andrew Connolly, Conor Winn, Stephen Walsh, Colm Horgan, Stephen Folan, Armin Aganovic, Paul Sinnott, Gary Shanahan, Conor Melody, Kevin Devaney, Ryan Connolly, Vinny Faherty.
