Loughmore become first Tipperary club to do senior double

Victory was achieved in today’s senior football final against Aherlow in Semple Stadium.

Loughmore-Castleiney 3-10
Aherlow Gaels 0-9

LOUGHMORE-CASTLEINEY BECAME the first Tipperary club to complete a senior championship double with victory over Aherlow in today’s county senior football final.

After claiming the hurling title last month with victory over Éire Og-Nenagh, the mid-Tipperary club made history this afternoon in Semple Stadium.

They had ten points to spare over Aherlow Gaels as they overcame the disappointment of last Sunday’s Munster club quarter-final defeat to Limerick’s Na Piarsaigh.

In the process Loughmore-Castleiney won their first Tipperary senior football crown since 2004 and avenged their final loss to today’s opponents in 2010.

They got off to a great start in today’s match with Tom King finding the net and they lead 1-4 to 0-5 at the interval. Further goals in the second-half by Evan Sweeney and John McGrath confirmed Loughmore’s superiority.

They now advance to the semi-final stage of the Munster club championship where they will take on Kerry champions Dr Crokes on November 17th.
