Man stages lengthy sit-down protest ahead of Limerick GAA final

Hammy Dawson had to be removed by the gardai following his actions before the Crecora-Na Piarsaigh match.

A MAN STAGED a bizarre sit-down protest prior to the JAHL final between Na Piarsaigh and Crecora in Clarina today.

Hammy Dawson, a St Patrick’s club official, had previously told the Irish Examiner that he was upset with the competition’s semi-final outcome, after his side were forced to concede the game due to the involvement of several of their players in Limerick senior and intermediate action on the same day.

Dawson had previously threatened to stage a sit-down protest as a result of the city division board’s controversial ruling, and he consequently followed through on these claims ahead of today’s match.

According to Jerome O’Connell of the Limerick Leader, the protest lasted almost two hours before the Gardai persuaded Dawson to leave the pitch and allow the game to go ahead as planned.
