RISING MONAGHAN STAR Bobby McCaul is set for an extended period on the sideline after suffering a second anterior cruciate ligament injury in the space of 14 months.
Farney manager Gabriel Bannigan, who is also a clubmate of McCaul’s at Aughnamullen, confirmed the news to The 42 on Thursday.
McCaul was introduced at half-time of the Round 1 qualifier game against Mayo at half time and performed brilliantly, scoring 1-1 and playing as a target man.

He also had an effort that the umpires waved wide, but which the television cameras subsequently suggested was a score – a pivotal moment in a game which Monaghan lost by a single point.
McCaul suffered the injury during the second half when he got on the end of a Conor McCarthy crossfield ball and turned awkwardly on the Clones turf.
It was the second time this has happened to McCaul, having suffered the same cruel injury playing for the county U20 team last year.
Bannigan said he will return to fulfil his promise, saying, “He’s made of bloody good stuff, he’ll be back.
“He’s a clubman of mine, from a brilliant family. His dad would have played for years with me. He has a big future ahead of him.”
Monaghan are due to face Roscommon in a Round 2B game on 13 June at Clones. The losers will be eliminated from the All-Ireland championship.
