Wexford make it two from two as they clinch first senior win in Offaly in 42 years

Jack Guiney and Podge Doran scored for the visitors at O’Connor Park.

Wexford 2-15

Offaly 0-12

JACK GUINEY AND PODGE DORAN were on the score-sheet as Wexford moved top of Division 1B with a comfortable win over Offaly at O’Connor Park.

After edging past Antrim on the opening weekend of the league campaign last week, Liam Dunne’s side secured their first senior hurling victory in The Faithful County for 42 years.

Despite playing against the wind, Jack Guiney set the visitors on their way with a first-half goal after shaking off the attention of three defenders.

After leading 1-08 to 0-07 at the break, Wexford became sloppy thereafter as they sent fourteen efforts wide but Offaly couldn’t take advantage of the Slaneysiders’ profligacy.

Any hopes of a comeback were dashed when referee Fergal Horgan showed a red card to Cillian Kiely. Podge Doran then ensured the points were heading back south with a late goal after coming on as a substitute.

Next-up for Wexford is a home clash with Limerick in a fortnight’s time while Offaly welcome Waterford to Tullamore.
