Rory Gallagher confirmed as Donegal’s new manager

Jim McGuinness’s former right-hand man has been given the nod.

RORY GALLAGHER HAS been given the nod to replace Jim McGuinness as Donegal senior football manager tonight.

Interviews to succeed McGuinness took place last week and Gallagher was one of at least four nominations. The favourite for the post was rubber-stamped for an initial three-year term at a meeting in Ballybofey earlier.

“Rory Gallagher brings experience and knowledge of the squad as a former selector of the 2012 All-Ireland winning team,” a county statement reads. “Rory is appointed for a three-year term with the option for a forth-year available.

“Donegal GAA look forward to working with Rory and his backroom team and aim to keep Donegal competing at the top level.”

Gallagher is the current joint-manager of Kilcar with John McNulty and was McGuinness’s assistant when Donegal won the 2012 All-Ireland. A native of Belleek, Co Fermanagh, Gallagher lives in Killybegs and expressed his interest in the position of Donegal senior manager a fortnight ago.
