It’s all happening at Carrington training ground this morning.

RYAN GIGGS HAS been appointed player-coach at Manchester United.

The Premier League’s all-time record appearance holder signed a one-year extension in March and will add some continuity from the Ferguson era.

Moyes said: “I’m delighted that Ryan has accepted the chance to become player-coach. His success and ability to adapt his game over a number of years gives him an unrivalled perspective on the modern game.

“His career is an example to any aspiring young player and I’m sure that both he and the players will benefit from his new role.”

Giggs has already begun taking his coaching badges and is due to attain his UEFA Pro Licence next year.

The Welshman says he is honoured to take up the position, and will look to help the club to achieve even more success under the guidance of new boss Moyes.

“It’s a great privilege to be appointed a player/coach,” he said.

I hope I will be able to bring my experience to bear, having been both a player and part of the Manchester United family for so long.

“It’s no secret that I have been taking my qualifications and I see this as the first step in my future career. I’m really looking forward to working alongside David and the team.”

Phil Neville, meanwhile, is back at the club ahead of an expected announcement that he will become a first team coach.

The 36-year-old, who came through the ranks at United and spent 10 years as a senior player there before joining Everton in 2005, is set to be reunited with former Toffees boss David Moyes along with his backroom staff Steven Round, Jimmy Lumsden and Chris Wood.

It is a busy day at the club’s Carrington training ground. As well as Neville’s arrival, Moyes took his first training session since officially taking the job on July 1 while talks with Wayne Rooney over his future are also believed to be continuing.
