Shadow Boxing: Pacquiao camp resist Mayweather invite

May date would be ‘foolish from an economic standpoint’ says Pacman adviser.

DESPITE FLOYD MAYWEATHER branding him a ‘punk’, and doing everything bar tucking his hands under his armpits and making a clucking noise, Manny Pacquiao looks set to shun his offer to fight in early May.

Mayweather laid down the gauntlet on Tuesday, tweeting:  ”Manny Pacquiao I’m calling you out let’s fight May 5th and give the world what they want to see”.

However, Pacquiao’s financial adviser, Michael Koncz has indicated a preference to stage the bout in new 45,000 seater Las Vegas venue (which will not be completed until the end of May) rather than the 17,000 capacity MGM Grand.

“Why would I tell Manny to fight on the 5th and throw away a percentage of 30 million? That’s crazy,” Koncz told the Associated Press.

Top Rank promoter, Bob Arum, meanwhile raised questions over ‘money’ Mayweather’s ability to guarantee his end of the prize-money. In an interview with the Phillipines’ GMA News network he said;

“Mayweather has no promoter and there’s no one who can guarantee his purse, so Mayweather is looking for outside parties who will guarantee his purse, Until he finds an angle, there is no fight. It is all posturing.”

While cavorting with 50 Cent yesterday, Mayweather certainly showed no signs of being short on dough. Perhaps the boxer doth protest too much.
