Signed up: Steven Reid rewarded with new Baggies deal

The versatile former Ireland international will remain at the Midlands club for two more years at least.

WEST BROMWICH ALBION have announced that Steven Reid has renewed his contract for a further two years.

The 31-year-old originally joined the Baggies on loan in March 2010 before signing for them in a permanent deal following their promotion to the Premier League later that year.

A midfielder by trade, Reid has slotted into the right-back position in recent times and made 22 appearances for the club this season before picking up an ankle injury against Chelsea in March which has ruled him out for the rest of the season.

With top flight football guaranteed, however, West Brom have moved to secure the services of the former Ireland international.

Sporting & Technical Director Dan Ashworth told their official website: “We’re delighted to have agreed a new contract with Steven. He’s had a good, solid season and proved he is still more than capable of playing Premier League football.

He is also a fantastic person to have around the training ground. Steven is valued by the club not just because of what he brings to the football field, but also his contribution off it.

“He has an important role to play as we look to establish ourselves as a top-flight club.”

Current manager Roy Hodgson is likely to be named the new England manager in the next 24 hours, so West Brom will need to find someone to take charge ahead of next season’s Premier League campaign.
