ST PATRICK’S ATHLETIC’S Europa League dream came to an end this evening, as they lost 2-0 on the night and 5-0 on aggregate against German side Hanover in the AWD-Arena.

Karim Haggui gave the hosts the lead on 32 minutes, heading home from a Szabolcs Huszti delivery.

Mario Eggimann then added to the visitors’ misery just after half-time, again with a header from a Konstantin Rausch cross.

The result means there will be no repeat this season of Shamrock Rovers’ unprecedented run in the same competition last year.

Meanwhile, Liverpool progressed comfortably, winning 3-0 on the night and 4-0 on aggregate against Belarus outfit FC Gomel.

Fabio Borini, Steven Gerrard and Glen Johnson were on target for Brendan Rodgers’s side.
