QUEENS PARK RANGERS manager Steve McClaren remains adamant that he is the right man for the job, despite the club’s dire start to the new Championship season.
Appointed in May, the 57-year-old has lost all four league matches played in the 2018-19 campaign so far, including a humiliating 7-1 thrashing at the hands of West Brom at the Hawthorns.
Having overseen a latest defeat on Tuesday as QPR slumped to a 3-0 loss at home to Bristol City though, the former England manager was bullish on the prospects of reviving his side’s flagging fortunes.

“Yes,” McClaren told reporters post-match at Loftus Road. “Absolutely. I knew the situation when I came in.
“I knew this was a tough job and it wouldn’t happen overnight. The message to the supporters, and it’s a difficult one, is patience.
“It’s not been a good start. Am I determined to put this right? Yes.”
The club has also seen limited activity during the off-season in the transfer market, drawing the ire of supporters, though McClaren has implored fans to understand the situation.
“Believe me, if the owners could spend money – if they could – they would,” he added. “But the restrictions are the restrictions.
“We’re in the loan market and free market and the owners are very supportive of that and that’s the key message to the supporters, who might not think that.
“We’ve been working behind the scenes to bring signings in and we expect one or two before Saturday, but certainly the next 10 days are big, because we have talent and potential out there.
“At the present moment we’re suffering. But I believe if we get the right players in we’ll be OK.”
McClaren succeeded Ian Holloway, himself in his second spell in charge at Loftus Road, in May, over 14 months after he was dismissed as coach of Derby County following a poor run of results.
QPR next face Wigan Athletic on 25 August before they host Bristol Rovers in the Carabao Cup three days later on 28 August.
