Surf's up as there's a swell weekend ahead

Ben Farr has studied the charts so you don’t have to this weekend.

THE SECOND HEAT of the O’Neill Cold Water Classic held in Thurso, Scotland kicked off last Wednesday.

They were blessed with perfect conditions as sick hollow waves rolled in all day.

The professional surfers tore up the faces of these clean Scottish beasts culminating in Britain’s Micah Lester, in the last heat of the day, picking up a perfect 10 for a monster barrel.

But a picture paints a thousand words, and a video is even better….

Sadly the comp was forced into a lay day as the swell dropped for the second day but is due to return today. Good luck to all who are competing.   Good waves everyone

Weather Overview

A fairly solid low-pressure system is moving into the North Atlantic bringing with it some tasty conditions. Should mean there are plenty of waves for everyone.

The north – Seriously solid swells all weekend with cross-shore winds. But they shouldn’t gust more than 20kph so shouldn’t effect the waves to much. Sunday will deliver the cleanest waves as the wind swings southerly.

Co Donegal/Sligo – The swell will be around the 3m mark all weekend and the waves are currently 5ft and offshore. The wind will swing west for most of Saturday knocking the peaks off, but the light offshore breeze will return Sunday.

Co Clare – While considerably smaller than in the North I still expect there to be at least 2-3ft fairly clean waves.

Dingle Peninsula – This will all depend on the swell being big enough to wrap around the south coast. If it does Inch should be fairly sheltered all weekend. If not the wind won’t be strong enough to do too much damage anyway.

Cork & the south – Off-shore for most of Saturday although the swell predicted in under the dreaded 2m mark.
