The Departures Lounge: your daily lunchtime transfer round-up

Find out which Brazilian player Stoke have snubbed, which Irish star Arsenal have been linked with and what Italian striker Blackburn will sign instead of Raul.

Bridge too far? Newcastle are rumoured to be interested in signing the ex-Chelsea man.

HARRY REDKNAPP HAS been wheeling and dealing again.

This time, Emmanuel Adebayor is firmly within Tottenham’s sights. However, quite how the ex-Arsenal man will be received is another interesting question, particularly in light of this report.

Stoke and Birmingham have rejected the opportunity to sign Brazilian player Radames da Silva. It’s probably for the best – Brazilian players and Stoke aren’t exactly a natural fit, are they?

All Arsenal fans really want is for Arsene Wenger to sign a robust centre back. So what does he do? He makes a move for Lucho Gonzalez, a 30-year-old playmaker. However, his club, Marseille, have insisted that the player is going nowhere.

Chelsea are interested in signing Juan Mata, who has a buy-out clause of 60million euros according to Guillem Balague. Perhaps he might inject some desperately-needed life into Chelsea, whose startlingly dull playing style is currently unrivalled.

Arsenal have once again been linked with Kevin Doyle (according to the Times print edition), who is at least bound to be better than Nicklas ‘the Danish Gary Doherty’ Bendtner.

The London club/serial procrastinators have also been linked with Scott Dann for the 441st time this transfer window.

After they were already rejected by one aging striker, Blackburn will look to sign another one – Vincenzo Iaquinta. Rumours that the 31-year-old will be offered a lifetime supply of Venky’s Chicken as part of his signing-on-fee have yet to be confirmed.

Ill-advised prospective deal of the day: Newcastle need a left-back, but Wayne Bridge is not the answer – the player showed during his time at West Ham that he is well past his best.

Advised prospective deal of the day: Joey Barton (or @Joey7Barton as newspapers might as well now be calling him) talks a lot of rubbish off the pitch, but on the pitch, his quality is obvious. He could be just the player West Ham need to help the club escape from the horrors of the Championship.
