2. #TEVEZ Carlos Tevez has described last night’s spat with Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini as a “misunderstanding” and nothing more.

Speaking after City fell to a 2-0 Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich, Mancini told reporters that Tevez would never play for the club again after he refused to come on as a second-half substitute.

3. #DAVY FITZ Davy Fitzgerald’s confirmation as Clare’s next senior hurling manager now appears to be little more than a formality after the Banner county board decided to scrap their proposed interview process last night.

This morning’s Irish Examiner reports that the two-time All-Ireland winning goalkeeper will be ratified at the next meeting of the county board on 11 October.

4. #CHAMPIONS LEAGUE The ladies of Peamount United will make history this evening when they face Paris St Germain in the first leg of their Champions League last 32 tie. Kick-off at Tallaght Stadium is at 7.45.

Elsewhere, in the men’s equivalent, Arsenal host Olympiakos of Greece at the Emirates while Andre Villas-Boas and Chelsea travel to Spain to take on Valencia.

5. #BASEBALL The MLB regular season is set to come to a nail-biting climax later on this evening as the races for both wild-card playoff spots come down to the very last day of the 162-game season.

In the American League, the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays both face must-win games to make it to the postseason while in the National League, it’s the St Louis Cardinals and the Atlanta Braves who are fighting for that final spot.
