The Surf Report: "Get on the road you Rebels - no waves here"

It’s another long weekend and time to hit the beaches again. Let us tell you where to catch the best waves.

ANOTHER WEEK, ANOTHER set of surf results. This time from the 2011 Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach, Australia.

The 50th major surf event to be held at the world famous Victorian beach break. In an enthralling final Australian Joel Parkinson claimed victory in front of a capacity crowd ahead of his fellow compatriot Mick Fanning.

The southern ocean delivered some great Easter Sunday swells and the two local boys made the most of the conditions. While Fanning had been the surfer of the tournement it was Parkinson who hit the big scores in the final.

Having already scored 8.53 on his first wave of the heat, Parko then scored a perfect 10.00 on his second leaving Fanning all but dead in the water. This was Parkinson’s 10th ASP Tour win and moves him from 9th to 2nd in the overall rankings after two events.

Elsewhere, tonight the ‘Oscars of surfing’ the Billabong XXL Awards will be held in California and four-time Irish national women’s champion Easkey Britton will be hoping to bring home the gong in the Girl’s Performance Category.

Britton is nominated for the massive barrel she scored in Mullaghmore earlier this year. All here at TheScore and Finn McCool’s Surf Co wish Easkey the best of luck.   Good waves everybody.

Weather Overview

After being spoilt all last weekend I’m afraid the weather gods aren’t smiling as much on us for this Bank Holiday weekend. That’s not to say its all bad news. There is a small northerly-based weather system that should bring in some swell for Saturday but with the possibility of some thundery storms. No tin-foil surfboards this week!

The north – Very small and gentle at the moment but the waves should double in size tomorrow. Winds are easterly all weekend so cross-shore.

Co Donegal/Sligo – The light easterlies are really bringing some shape to the waves in the north-west. Its about 3ft and clean at the moment. Early tomorrow when the swell is at its peak will see the best rollers of the weekend.

Co Clare – Although the wind is perfect for a decent ride, sadly the swell just isn’t there. A barely longboardable wave is coming in today, which will top out Saturday morning before decreasing again Sunday.

Dingle Peninsula – Early morning Saturday should see some decent waves on the west facing part of Brandon Bay. Easterly winds will prevail all weekend which will do wonders for the small swells.

Cork & the south – Get on the road you Rebels. No waves here.
