The west's awake as Giants take title back to San Francisco

Giants seal historic win.

A bunch of misfits won the World Series last night – setting off a crazy night of partying in San Francisco.

The Giants won 3-1 in Arlington to clinch their first title in 56 years and the days of legend Willie Mays.

Joe Posnanski of Sports Illustrated reflected on a historic victory in Texas:

This Giants team wasn’t about 1954. Who cared about ’54? This team wasn’t about Leo Durocher or Bobby Thomson or Carl Hubbell or Mugsy McGraw or Christy Mathewson or any of that ancient Giants baseball history. This team wasn’t about another time or another place.

Sports Illustrated’s Joe Posnanski reflected on the biggest night in the baseball calendat from his seat in Texas.

No. This team was about San Francisco. And San Francisco had NEVER won the World Series.

Well, the San Francisco Giants won their first World Series on Monday.

The Giants overwhelmed the Texas Rangers over five games. But last night’s tie encapsulated everything that Game One was supposed to be; two of game’s best pitchers going at it. Tim Lincecum eventually got the better Cliff Lee.

Despite what was described as a riot in downtown San Fran – with tech savvy Californian looters checking into Foursquare, there is a planned celebration tomorrow.

The city will host a ticker-tape parade down Market Street that ends with a ceremony outside City Hall.
