Tough path for Murray as start of Australian Open looms

Andy Murray faces a potential semi-final against Novak Djokovic, while Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are in the same side of the men’s draw.

ANDY MURRAY AND Novak Djokovic are on course to meet in the semi-finals of this year’s Australian Open in Melbourne, following Friday’s draw for the first Grand Slam of the year.

Murray’s route through to the last four is not easy, as he will face rising star Ryan Harrison in the first round before potential clashes with Alex Bogomolov Jr, Gael Monfils and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Djokovic – whose only recent action saw him win an exhibition event in Abu Dhabi – will play Italian Paolo Lorenzi in the first round.

Meanwhile, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have been paired in the same side of a Grand Slam draw for the first time since 2005, and are on course for their own semi-final encounter.

Both players will start against a qualifier.

The tournament begins next Monday.
