Mickey Harte saw his new-look side win out by 0-13 to 1-7 against the Jim McGuinness-managed team. Tyrone had trailed by 1-5 to 0-5 at the interval. Michael Murphy hit a brilliant goal for Donegal but he had earlier been denied from the penalty spot by Tyrone netminder Niall Morgan.
Tyrone upped the ante in the second-half and struck the last four points of the game courtesy of Paddy McNeice, a brace of frees by Morgan and Peter Hughes to claim success.
Elsewhere in that section, Armagh won 1-17 to 0-15 at home to Queen’s University at the Athletic Grounds. The teams were tied at 0-8 apiece at the break with the crucial score arriving early in the second-half when Niall McConville found the net.
