Welsh trio set to feature in Ireland encounter

James Hook, Shane Williams and Dan Lydiate are all set to win their fitness races for Saturday’s showdown.

JAMES HOOK, SHANE Williams and Dan Lydiate are all set to overcome injury troubles and play in Wales’ clash with Ireland, enabling Warren Gatland to have a fully fit squad to choose from.

Despite coming off in Wales’ weekend victory over Fiji, Sam Warburton also appears set to win his fitness race.

Lydiate, in particular, will be relieved to have recovered, as he undertook drastic measures in an attempt to quicken his recovery, waking himself up at two-hour intervals in order to put ice on his ankle.

Wales’ national medical performance manager Prav Mathema confirmed that the trio would be fit and said:

“Gethin Jenkins and Sam Warburton are also both fit for selection following calf cramp experienced during the end of the Fiji fixture.”

Meanwhile, Ireland are sweating on the fitness of Rory Best and have called up Mike Sherry as a precautionary measure.

The two sides have already met once this year in the Six Nations, and Wales won 19-13 on that occasion, with a controversial try helping Warren Gatland’s side to secure victory.
