WEXFORD GAA CHIEFS are set to request that proposals to revamp next year’s National Hurling League are removed from the agenda for this Saturday’s Central Council meeting.

At a special county board meeting last night,  Wexford reaffirmed their opposition to the plans to expand Division 1A to eight teams.

A statement on the official Wexford GAA website outlined the format of last night’s meeting with the main points of note being:

• County board chairman Diarmuid Deveraux confirmed that he has contacted Croke Park asking for the minutes of the Central Council meeting where the new proposals were discussed.
• The response was that it hadn’t been discussed by the Central Council but members were emailed an opinions were sought.
• As a result Wexford have asked that the proposal be removed from the agenda for this Saturday’s meeting as it is not in order.
• Wexford are seeking a meeting with the GAA’s management committee on Friday prior to the Central Council meeting on Saturday and insist that a 2/3 majority is required to overturn the status quo.

The county board also stated that if the proposals are implemented, Wexford will ‘oppose them with all means at our disposal and will exhaust all the GAA’s appeal mechanisms and resort to legal remedies should it be required’.
