Former League of Ireland star joins Preston after successful loan spell

Eoin Doyle has signed a three-year deal with the Championship club.

IRISH STRIKER EOIN Doyle has joined Preston North End from Cardiff City for an undisclosed fee.

The Dublin-born striker is no stranger at Deepdale shaving spent all last season on loan at the club, after being deemed surplus to requirements in the Welsh capital.

The striker, who scored three times during 23 appearances for Preston North End last season, signed a three-year deal with the Championship outfit.

“From the minute I walked into the changing room, the lads were great. They made me settle very easily,” the 28-year-old told the club’s official website.

“Even though I was a loan player, I didn’t really fell like I was a loan player all season so it was a very easy decision to make.”

Doyle joins fellow Irish players Greg Cunningham and Alan Browne at the Lancashire-based club.

The former League of Ireland player, who previously played for Shelbourne, Shamrock Rovers and Sligo, is the fourth summer signing by Simon Grayson after Tommy Spurr, Chris Maxwell and Danish striker Simon Makienok,

“We are delighted that he’s signed, I think it will bring added competition. I don’t think people have seen the best of him yet, but I’m confident that he’s got the ability to make things happen for us so I’m really pleased,” said Grayson.

Doyle and his teammates kick off the new Championship campaign away at Reading on 6 August as they seek to improve on last year’s 11th-place finish.
