The stretch you should do every morning before sitting at your desk

It can be a long day so try this exercise.

IF YOU’RE LUCKY enough to sit at a desk and browse the internet all day count yourself very lucky.

But even though it’s the most satisfying way in the world to spend your days it’s not so healthy for your hips and your spine.

Every office has staff who seem to walk around aimlessly – or purposefully as they’ll probably attest, but there might be method in it after all.

Standing up lengthens the spine which is in an unnaturally crunched position for extended periods.

But if we’re to take office health a step further we’re going to prescribe this hip-flexor stretch as well as aimless walking.

So, to do it…

  1. From a standing position, bring your right leg back and your left forward as though you’re going to do a forward lunge.
  2. Squeeze your glutes as you bend your knees, lowering your right knee towards the floor.
  3. Raise your right hand and lean to the left, arching your lower back until you feel a stretch in the front of the right hip.
  4. Hold for 10-30 seconds and repeat on the other side.
  5. Repeat three times on each side.

Now get back to work.
