PORTO HAVE CONFIRMED Atletico Madrid have agreed to pay Jackson Martinez’s €35 million release clause. The player’s agent revealed last week that the 28-year-old would move to the Vicente Calderon after rejecting the chance to join AC Milan.

A statement on Porto’s website said: “Atletico Madrid agreed on Tuesday to pay Jackson Martinez’s release clause to the sum of €35 million.”

The Colombia striker, who was also reportedly a target for a host of Premier League clubs, has spent three seasons with Porto and played 136 official matches, scoring 92 goals.

He was the top scorer in the Portuguese league in those three campaigns, with 26 goals in 2012-13, 20 in 2013-14 and 21 in 2014-15.

Atleti have a history of world class strikers with Fernando Torres, Diego Forlan, Sergio Aguero, Radamel Falcao, Diego Costa and Mario Mandzukic all leading the line in recent years.
