2014 FOOTBALLER OF the year James O’Donoghue has suffered another injury setback this afternoon in Croke Park after damaging his right shoulder.
Kerry manager Éamonn Fitzmaurice confirmed afterwards that O’Donoghue will undergo a scan on his shoulder as the Kingdom hope the Legion club man will be fit for their All-Ireland semi-final on 23 August.
“He got a bang on the shoulder so we will just have to wait and see,” revealed Fitzmaurice.
“Hopefully it is not too serious. He will have a scan and we will assess the seriousness of the injury.”
The incident happened during the first-half of Kerry’s quarter-final tie with Croke Park when O’Donoghue was challenged by Kildare goalkeeper Mark Donnellan as he tried to round him near the Davin End goal.
Donnellan stripped him of possession but referee David Coldrick didn’t award a penalty as O’Donoghue fell to the ground.
After being treated by Kerry’s medical staff, he was then replaced by Barry John Keane and clutched his right shoulder as he left the pitch.
O’Donoghue had scored 0-3 by that juncture with his replacement Keane notching 1-3 in the second-half as Kerry ran riot.
It’s a major concern for Kerry as O’Donoghue has suffered serious problems with his shoulder in the past.
He missed all of this year’s National League campaign after undergoing surgery on his shoulder last winter.
