Major blow for Liverpool as top target Mario Gotze looks set to stay at Bayern

The 23-year-old is going to remain at the Allianz Arena and look to impress new boss Carlo Ancelotti, according to BILD.

IT SEEMS LIVERPOOL may have to alter their summer transfer plans as their prime attacking target, Mario Gotze, is set to stay at Bayern Munich.

The 23-year-old, who scored Germany’s winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final against Argentina, had been heavily linked with a switch to Anfield and a link-up with his previous boss at Borussia Dortmund, Jurgen Klopp.

But according to BILD, Gotze is now prepared to remain at the Allianz Arena for the time being and look to impress the club’s new manager.

He’s quoted as saying:

I look forward to the new season in Munich and will do everything possible to be in top shape for my first training session under Carlo Ancelotti.”

Gotze struggled for game-time under Pep Guardiola last term, something that helped fuel rumours of an imminent Premier League move.

With one year left on his current deal with the Bavarian giants, it would seem Bayern aren’t too concerned at the prospect of losing him for nothing next year and you’d expect Klopp and his club to be at the top of the queue again, should that be the case.
