Paul Galvin texted Kerry players that he'll have 'no airs and graces' upon his return

Kerry attacker Stephen O’Brien on how they heard of Galvin’s comeback.

PAUL GALVIN SENT a text message to the Kerry senior footballers last night to announce his return to the squad but insisted there will be ‘no airs and graces’ on his part as he intends to battle for a place in the team.

The four-time All-Ireland senior winner’s shock return to the Kingdom fold only emerged last night before he played in a challenge game between a Kerry selection and the county U21 side.

Kerry forward Stephen O’Brien revealed to the GAA’s official website today that thedevelopment did catch the players by surprise.

“We just got a text on the way down to training yesterday. It came as a bit of a surprise to many of us that he was coming back. We played the Kerry U21′s in a challenge game last night and he came on for us, so it’s good to have him back.

“He said that in the message he sent as well, that there would be no airs and graces. He’s going to compete for playing time with the rest of the squad and he’ll be a valued member of the squad going forward. Everyone says he keeps himself in great shape and he definitely looked to be in good shape last night as well.”

O’Brien was speaking at a media event today as Kerry prepare to take on Cork in round four of the Allianz Football League next Sunday in Páirc Uí Rinn at 2pm.
