Stephen Hunt is back in football after signing a short-term deal with Coventry

The Irish winger has been without a club since being released by Ipswich Town last summer.

IRISH INTERNATIONAL WINGER Stephen Hunt has joined League One promotion chasers Coventry City on a short-term contract.

Hunt, who has been capped 39 times by the Republic of Ireland and was part of the Euro 2012 squad, has been a free agent since he was released by Ipswich Town last summer.

Having been training with Coventry for over a week, the 34-year-old has convinced manager Tony Mowbray to offer him a chance to compete for a place in the side.

The Sky Blues are currently in fourth place in League One, just four points behind leaders Burton Albion. Yesterday, Coventry signed Joe Cole until the end of the season after the former Liverpool midfielder impressed since joining on a short-term deal in October.

“Stephen has been training with the squad for over a week now and we’ve offered him a short-term contract to continue that opportunity to challenge for a place in our first-team,” Tony Mowbray said.

“He has fantastic pedigree, both in the Premier League and at international level, and will give us another valuable option going forward. I’m sure he’ll be a positive influence in the dressing room and could maybe help some of our players with his experience.”
