The sons of ex-Dublin and Meath stars are named in Westmeath minor football team

Tommy Carr and Bernard Flynn will have plenty interest in Saturday’s clash.

FORMER DUBLIN AND Meath football stars Tommy Carr and Bernard Flynn will have a special interest in Saturday’s EirGrid Leinster minor football opener between Westmeath and Wexford.

Carr’s son Garrett has been named to start at full-back while Flynn’s son Billy is selected alongside him in the full-back line at left corner-back.

Tommy Carr played for Dublin as well as serving as a manager of the Dublin, Roscommon and Cavan senior football sides.

Bernard Flynn won two All-Ireland senior medals during his Meath career (1987 and 1988) and five Leinster senior medals.

Throw-in at Innovate Wexford Park on Saturday afternoon is 3pm. It’s one of five first round matches in the Leinster minor championship with Dublin at home to Offaly at 12.30pm in opening tie.

The remixing three clashes are all at 3pm with Meath facing Laois, Louth taking on Kildare and it’s Wicklow up against Longford.
