West Ham snap up Dortmund winger Yarmolenko in £17.5m deal

The 28-year-old Ukrainian has agreed to join new manager Manuel Pellegrini at the Hammers.

WEST HAM HAVE completed the signing of Andriy Yarmolenko from Borussia Dortmund.

The Hammers were in talks with the German club for the past few days, and they have finally reached a breakthrough — securing the Ukraine international for a fee of £17.5 million (€20m).

28-year-old Yarmolenko, voted Ukrainian Footballer of the Year on four occasions, spent nine years at Dynamo Kiev prior to joining Dortmund in 2017. Only Andriy Shevchenko has scored more international goals than him for Ukraine.

Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said of the move: “We thank Andrey for his commitment and wish him and his family all the best for the future.”

Hammers chairman David Gold, meanwhile, added: “I am delighted to announce the signing of Andriy Yarmolenko. Andriy is a 28-year-old attacking player signed from Borussia Dortmund.

“He has 77 caps for Ukraine and has played in the Champions League for both Dynamo Kiev and Dortmund. He has signed a four-year deal.”

The news comes a day after the announcement that Jack Wilshere has joined West Ham from Arsenal.

“Of course, I am very happy to sign for West Ham United,” Yarmolenko said. “West Ham is a big club with good fans and I am happy to come to play in the Premier League.

“The Premier League is the best league in the world and I know that an interesting project is being built here at West Ham. The team wants to achieve high things and I am excited for this challenge.”
