Armenia leave door open for Irish surge
THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND have been gifted a great chance to give themselves some breathing space at the top of their Euro 2012 qualifying group ahead of tonight’s crucial Group B clash with Russia. Slovakia – who currently top the group alongside Ireland with six points – have been beaten 3-1 by Armenia, meaning an Irish victory could put them three points clear. A draw would see Ireland pull one point ahead, while a Russian win would see all three sides tied on six points apiece.
