2012 All-Ireland minor hurling winning captain to make Tipperary senior football debut

Bill Maher will make his bow for the Premier against Waterford, as will Josh Keane.

TIPPERARY’S 2012 ALL-Ireland minor hurling winning captain Bill Maher will make his senior football championship debut for the county next Sunday.

Bill Maher in action for Tipperary against Dublin in the 2015 All-Ireland U21 semi-final.

Maher has been named at right half-back for the clash against Waterford in the Fraher Field in Dungarvan. Tipperary manager Liam Kearns has also handed a debut to right half-forward Josh Keane.

Both Maher and Keane won EirGrid Munster U21 football medals in 2015 for a Tipperary team that were narrowly denied All-Ireland glory by Tyrone at the final stage.

There are ten survivors from the Tipperary team that started in last year’s comprehensive win over Waterford by 1-24 to 0-5.

Maher, Keane, Colm O’Shaughnessy, Shane Leahy and Alan Moloney are the new players drafted in.

From last year’s starting side Paddy Codd is now unavailable, Ger Mulhaire is injured while Seamus Kennedy and Steven O’Brien have joined the Tipperary senior hurling squad.

In addition Colin O’Riordan has embarked on an AFL career with Sydney Swans.
