Boyd Rankin admits he could turn his back on Ireland if England want him

Boyd Rankin says he could not turn down the chance to play one-day or Test cricket with England, were the opportunity to arise.

BOYD RANKIN SAYS he would abandon his career with the Irish cricket team if England were to come calling.

The Warwickshire star made his debut for the England Lions this week and says that even the chance to play one-day cricket for England would see him leave his homeland behind.

“I want to play at the highest level and be the best I can be. I still feel I’m getting better and better and if the chance came I would probably take it,” the 27-year-old told the Belfast Telegraph’s Ian Callender.

“The ultimate goal is to play Test cricket and I don’t know if the one-day team is the route to Test team. It won’t happen for a while anyway but it’s just a matter of trying to get my foot into the Lions (door) and do well with them and get on the winter programme.”
