Ireland's Carl Frampton to defend world title on ITV

The Belfast boxer ‘s February bout will not be on pay-per-view.

CARL FRAMPTON’S FIRST defence of his IBF super bantamweight world title against Chris Avalos will be broadcast on terrestrial TV.

The fight, taking place in Belfast, will be broadcast on ITV with the boxer and his promotors announcing the news on Twitter this lunch time:

The move is a welcome boost for fans who usually have to rely on pay-per-view channels to get their fix of world championship boxing.

While ITV is available on Sky in Ireland – though subscribers must access it manually – it has been replaced by UTV Ireland for UPC subscribers.

When contacted by The42, a spokesperson for UTV Ireland said he was unsure if the channel would broadcast the fight. However, at time of publication, he was seeking further confirmation.
