THE TOP TWO in the Scottish Premiership were in action at Pittordie Stadium with six points separating leaders Celtic and Aberdeen.

However, the Dons halved that gap with a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Jonny Hayes and Simon Church.

Dubliner Hayes, capped three times for Ireland’s U21s, hit a belter from 20 yards on 31 minutes and Church doubled their lead six minutes later.

Leigh Griffiths pulled one back for Celtic in the 93rd minutes but it was too little too late.

Hayes had been cleared to play in the game despite suffering a nasty bite from a dog earlier in the week.

After going out of the Scottish League Cup semi-final at the hands of Ross County over the weekend, the future of Hoops boss Ronny Deila will undoubtedly come under further scrutiny after the loss.
