Clinical Clonmel clinch All-Ireland semi spot

Goals either side of half-time crucial for Commericals as they book February date with Ballyboden St Enda’s.

TIPPERARY AND MUNSTER champions Clonmel Commericals will face Dublin’s Ballyboden St Enda’s in the All-Ireland club senior football semi-final in February.

Commercials saw off London club Tír Chonaill Gaels by 2-12 to 0-9 in their quarter-final in Ruislip this afternoon.

And they had to do it the hard way after losing star men Aldo Matassa and Munster final hero Michael Quinlivan to black cards in the first half.

Centre-back Seamus Kennedy was named man of the match for the Tipp side for whom goals either side of half-time from Ian Fahey and Padraig Looram proved crucial.

After the match, delighted manager Charlie McGeever told Tipp FM he felt they stood up as a team today, and that was what got them over the line.

“It was a top-notch performance today. This match was a potential banana skin.

“Today was a real team performance. I thought we were excellent, we lost two players and our panel got us through.”
