The big team news this week from a Cork perspective is the return of All-Star defender Brian Murphy. Just over a week after returning to the panel, the former Young Hurler of the Year has been catapulted into the Rebels’ starting line-up for the first time in 21 months. Here’s how Cork are set to line out, although the word from Thurles is that there are still doubts over Seamus Harnedy’s fitness…

Of course, Waterford are without star forward Pauric Mahony, who’s in the early stages of his recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament tear. Here’s the team named by manager Derek McGrath:

In the absence of Pauric Mahony, Waterford manager Derek McGrath has confirmed that Maurice Shanahan will be on free-taking duty.
You have to feel for Waterford’s Pauric Mahony today. Just a few weeks after playing a starring role in his side’s Allianz League final win against Cork at Semple Stadium, he’s back in Thurles today but watching on from the sidelines.
He spoke to RTÉ’s Clare McNamara earlier: “Maurice [Shanahan] is there, he’ll step up to the plate today hopefully with the frees. There’s plenty of lads there and plenty of goal threats as well.
“I don’t really think there’s any magic gameplan that Waterford have adopted over the last few games. It’s just down to hard work. If that means you find yourself back in the half-back line trying to win ball then that’s what you have to do.”
One change to the Waterford team that was named this week. Maurice Shanahan will start instead of Tom Devine. One change for Cork too. Patrick Cronin is in, Seamus Harnedy is out.
