Irish international Darron Gibson charged with drink-driving

The Everton star has been charged in relation to an alleged hit-and-run crash on Sunday morning.

IRISH INTERNATIONAL DARRON Gibson has been charged with drink-driving, it has been confirmed.

A statement from the Greater Manchester police issued to The42 confirmed that the 27-year-old Everton midfielder had been charged in relation to an alleged hit-and-run crash near his home in Altrincham, Greater Manchester on Sunday.

Gibson is accused of driving with excess alcohol following a crash involving a cyclist.

The statement read: “Darron Gibson (25/10/1987) of Altrincham has been charged with driving without due care and attention, driving with excess alcohol and failing to stop after a road traffic collision.

“He has been bailed to appear at Trafford Magistrates Court on Tuesday 1 September 2015.

“This is in relation to an incident on Sunday 16 August 2015 where police were called to reports that a car had collided with a cyclist on Park Road, Trafford and failed to stop before pulling into a petrol station on nearby Dunham Road and colliding with a pump.”

The Derry native has made a number of Premier League appearances, beginning his career with Manchester United, before joining Everton for an undisclosed fee in January 2012.
