Donegal 1-10

Derry 0-8

DONEGAL CLAIMED A five-point success over Derry in today’s Ulster minor football quarter-final at Celtic Park.

A strong start to the game which saw Donegal race into a 1-4 to 0-1 lead by the 13th minute was central to their victory.

Bundoran’s James Brennan rattled the net early on for Donegal and that transpired to a crucial score.

Donegal were ahead by 1-6 to 0-3 at the break but had to withstand a strong Derry fightback in the second-half.

Ruairi McElwee and Barry Grant notched points to help Derry cut the deficit to 1-7 to 0-8 during the second-half.

But that was as close as they got to Donegal as the winners shut up shop and Derry didn’t register another score for the remainder of the game.

Donegal closed the match out in style with three unanswered points as substitutes Gavin McBride, Stephen McBrearty and Ethan O’Donnell all raised white flags to seal a five-point success.

Donegal now advance to a semi-final meeting with Fermanagh or Antrim.
